EVAW Alliance

Keeping in line with its objective to reduce violence against women, UNIFEM Pakistan launched EVAW alliance to mark 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence, 2007, with the aim to end violence all forms of violence against women through: i) strengthening coordination between stakeholders working on violence against women and ii) identification of common areas of intervention.

This alliance is envisaged to function as a coordination platform on ending violence against women particularly in relation to provincial, national and international commitments on gender equality through:

i. Making EVAW a priority at national level

ii. Monitoring state commitments on EVAW at all levels

iii. Lobbying for policy and legislative reforms on EVAW

Involvement of men is ensured in the activities undertaken by Alliance members. The alliance also focuses on women facing multiple discrimination (e.g. refugees, sex workers, minority women, women with disabilities, women in conflict situations, HIV positive, migrant and internally displaced women etc).

The Alliance currently comprises representatives of women’s organizations, NGOs, networks, donors, UN agencies, international NGOs, government, media and academia. Future plans include expanding the network to the provincial and district level with the support of organizations having provincial and district outreach.

The membership is open to all stakeholders working on violence against women who share the vision of this alliance. An e-group has been created to facilitate easy access to and sharing of information.
